Life in Singapore as a Student: Studying vs Procrastination

First of all, you should understand the motivation behind this blog entry. I am trying to do everything not to study Financial Valuation, and Accounting. They are very boring and involve lots of reading! Today is Sunday. I do not think mankind is meant to work or do anything remotely painful on Sunday. Anyway, here it goes...

Although my previous paragpraph does not hint it, being a student in Singapore is probably more fun than working here. If I were working here, wearing pants and a shirt all day long would not be comfortable. My usual school uniform consists of shorts, a t-shirt and my birkenstocks.

Getting motivated for studying is a bit hard. Having a very blue swimming pool outside of your window, shining sun above your head, and a couple of people playing tennis 100 meters away does not help much. Therefore, I leave almost all of my studying for after dark. MOM and DAD, do not worry. I accomplish alot between dusk and pre-going out!!! My teachers still have not threathened me about calling you and letting you know about my performance.

The night life is pretty limited here. Although I have not been to ALL of the popular spots, some locals claim that I have covered 90%. Apparently, there still are some undiscovered late nite spots. However, although I am not working anymore, I have to wake up around 7.30 on some days (which totaly sucks). I did not even wake up that early when I was working! I just realized that my brain does not work before 10am. I look like a complete idiot if I am asked a question before 10 am. Not only I do not get the questions and comments addressed to me, I also mumble and all the words that are coming out of my mouth are completely gibberish.

Anyway, I think it is time to get back to work. Let's see how much I can get done. I will keep you up-to-date with my very bad writing.

Ciao

Life on the Equator line (Singapore)

First of all, a couple of quick observations about living 200km away from the equator line:

- The water in the toilet does not go either clock wise or counter clock wise, it just pours down.
- The new moon is not on the right side, it looks like letter u. Very tiny strip at the bottom.
- The satellite antennas are not angled, they look like giant pans, all pointing directly above.

And now a couple of things about Singapore:

- I still have not been caned!?! Despite my many attempts of being loud on the streets at night.
- They drive on the wrong side of the road!!! This is very wierd, and it will take me some time to get used to it, unless I get run over by a car while crossing the street and looking at the wrong side.
- The average asian woman is not dying for any white guy.
- Although the island is full of trees, there are no mosquitos!!! and the average Singaporian is afraid of contracting some illness from a mosquito. Therefore, they do not go to Malaysia too often.
- HIV is illegal in Singapore. You have to pass an HIV test in order to get residency papers.
- The sun is not as hot as it should be. I definetely got worse sun-burn in El Salvador, CanCun or Bodrum.
- It is very humid, and I am grateful to whoever invented A/C.

So far this is it.
Will have more soon.
